About 35 million Americans have Temporomadibular Joint Disorder (TMJ). In severe cases of this painful condition the joint degenerates to the point that the only treatment options are implanted prosthetics or autografts. Pitt innovators have developed a regenerative approach combining magnesium with a biodegradable polymer to create a scaffold that promotes bone and cartilage regrowth.
