Featured patent: 11,996,566: “Highly Active, Robust and Versatile Multi-functional, Fully Non-Noble Metals Based Electro-Catalyst Compositions and Methods of Making for Energy Conversion and Storage”
University of Pittsburgh researchers have developed a non-noble metals based electro-catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells with potential applications in proton exchange membrane fuel cells, methanol fuel cells, hydrogen generation from solar and electrolytic water splitting and metal air batteries. These electro-catalysts overcome the supply and cost issues associated with the use of precious metals. Additionally, these electro-catalysts can be easily scalable and have a comparable or superior electrochemical performance to precious metal-based electro-catalysts derived by traditional methods and can contribute to a sustainable and more environmentally friendly approach to energy supply.
